The Apprentice - Waller Services Kent

You’re Hired

Waller Associates Ltd has successfully trained a number of apprentices in surveying, office skills, specialist construction trades and glazing roles who have become valuable members of our team. You’re hired!

Our latest apprentice, Samuel Harcup was recommended to us by an employee after he expressed an interest in joining our glazing team. Apprentices combine practical learning on the job together with a work based qualification, studying at college or a training organisation. We currently use the services of a training organisation to provide core Maths and English with work based observations to provide a recognised FENSA approved NVQ qualification. We enhance the apprenticeship to include driving lessons which benefit both the individual and the company, Samuel has recently based his theory test and is looking forward to being on the road very soon.

Waller Associates

In 1993 Steve Waller started Waller Building Services after training as a quantity surveyor. Over the next few years the company grew and it was in July, 2000, when the decision was made for Waller Building Services to become a Limited company.  Therefore Waller Associates Limited was set up and Waller Building Services became a trading division within that company. In 2010, an opportunity arose that dove tailed well with the existing company structure.  A long established local Glazing company went into administration which produced the need for a commercial and domestic glazing supplier in the area.  Their commercial glazing manger, Paul Hayward, liked the way we operated as a company and therefore a new division was formed.

Redesign of school reception - Waller Building Services - Kent, UK

Fensa Registered

What does Fensa stand for?

FENSA is the industry standard for replacement window and door installers self-certifying compliance with the building regulations.

FENSA stands for the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme. Following Government encouragement, FENSA has been set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and other industry bodies in response to Building Regulations for double glazing companies.

In choosing a FENSA double glazing registered company such as Waller Glazing Services we can offer greater protection when purchasing double glazing for your home.

Why choose a Fensa Registered company?

1. Avoid rogue traders

2. Over 10 years of raising standards in the glazing industry

3. A quick and simple route to building regulations compliance

Ensuring Confidence in FENSA installers

At Waller Glazing Services we have a dedicated team that specialises in the installation and compliance, ensuring 100% satisfaction to all our customers.

As a FENSA registered company we are continually re-assessed by an independent inspection body to ensure consistency of Building Regulations adherence and service. Our customers are guaranteed compliance with the Building Regulations without the added cost and time of arranging assessment by Building Control.
An independent report commissioned by the Government found FENSA to be the most successful of all competent person schemes to date in the UK and this is something Waller Glazing Services is proud to be part of.

What is BIM and how does it effect the building industry?

In a nutshell, BIM stands for “Building Information Modelling”. The government wants to have this fully integrated into all government projects by 2016.

Is this going to happen? The answer is probably not but we need to ensure we understand what it is and be prepared for it.

The problem that building companies are going to face when tendering for government projects is when they are asked things such as “are you BIM level 2 ready?” At this, stage all we need to prove is that we are working towards it and, at the level of contract we go for, it will basically mean the ability to:

  • Receive and send information electronically
  • Produce 3D drawings
  • Have software which integrates on the platform being used for BIM (which could be something as simple as an excel spreadsheet in some circumstances)

In some instances, if we can receive and open tender documents and send them back, we are proving that we can already integrate at a BIM level!

To date, the following link is the best I have found which should explain what BIM actually is:
