New Window Trickle Vent Regulations

New Window Trickle Vent Regulations

New Window Trickle Vent Regulations

New government regulations state that any replacement windows installed after 15th June 2022 require trickle vents. This was previously the case with new builds, but now also applies to older properties.

What are Trickle Vents?

Trickle vents are a component within the window or door situated at the top of the frame. They are designed to allow constant background ventilation into a room even when the window is closed. Generally, the vent can be controlled with open and closed options. However there is an option of having a permanently open vent. If trickle vents have a closed option, we recommend that they remain open to allow constant circulation.

The Benefits of Trickle Vents

The main benefits of trickle vents are, constant air flow into a room improving the quality of air and reducing the build-up of condensation. Condensation can lead to damp and mould which can have a negative effect on health. Additionally, they help remove stale air from the property, which is very helpful if there are any odours lingering in your home.

Why Have the New Regulations Been Introduced?

Homes are better sealed than ever before with the aim of reducing heat loss and improving energy efficiency. This means that we use less energy heating our homes which benefits the environment. In addition, even older houses are being upgraded with improved insulation. With less heat is escaping, less fresh air is entering the home also resulting in a negative impact.

Can Insects Enter the Home Through Trickle Vents?

If you do not like creepy crawlies, don’t worry. New trickle vents should have filters which means that insects cannot enter your home via the vents.

In conclusion, trickle vents are a cheap and effective way of allowing a constant airflow throughout a building which provides health benefits and increases the longevity of the property itself.

Love your trickle vents,

Mark
