Site Management Safety Training Scheme
After completing a HNC in construction and level 4 NVQ we started to look at what additional qualifications I could achieve to enhance my skills to compliment my job role. The first was to get my managers CSCS card which I completed at the end of last year. The second was to complete and pass the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course, which I am proud to say I have just finished with a 100% pass rate.
It was a 5-day course which was split over 5 weeks. I completed this with one of our contract managers, Chris Webster. During the 5 days we covered all the relevant legislation affecting safe working in the building industry and why it is important to follow them. It specifically emphasised the requirement for risk assessments in the workplace and why they need to be enforced, understood and followed to create the safe working environment that we strive for at Wallers.
I would highly recommend anyone who has a management role within the construction industry to look at completing this course, especially if you are fairly new to the industry. The information that can be learnt will massively help with developing skills and knowledge needed to run and look after projects safely. As a company, all of our contract managers now hold SMSTS cards.
