England Women’s Football Team
In the last few years I have started to follow the England women’s football team and what a journey it has been.
I will always remember 31st July 2022. The setting, Wembley Stadium in front of a sell-out crowd to watch the women’s Euro final between England and Germany. And…. I was there! Along with a growing fan base, I have witnessed women’s football evolve. A key part of this, for me, is the continued growth of the Women’s Super League. This has produced many high quality and skilful players that, as well as playing for their clubs, are representing the national team. With the improved skills and more exciting games has come increased television coverage which has brought improved accessibility for everyone. I am no different and I have enjoyed watching the game evolve.
The Final at Wembley Stadium
I was so confident that England would do well in the Euros that I booked tickets for the final at Wembley months before the first ball was kicked. My positivity was rewarded with the Lionesses making it all the way to the final against Germany.
It was a great day out at Wembley and England won in extra time, after a tense 90 minutes. Chole Kelly scored the winner and the whole country erupted. It was great to see a winning team with fantastic support. One of the most enjoyable aspects was the different types of supporters being so varied. This included young families and women from many different countries of Europe. It provided an exciting and friendly, carnival atmosphere.
I found the whole experience completely exhilarating and can’t wait to go to my next match and the next chapter in women’s football. The current generation of women footballers are inspiring future players throughout the nation. I only wish I had the same opportunities when I was younger!
