Royal Park Primary Academy Window Installation

Following a successful tender process, we were awarded the Royal Park Primary Academy window installation project. The Sidcup school’s existing windows were predominantly the original, single-glazed Crittall windows. These outdated windows presented several issues, particularly around energy efficiency, security and safety.

The Project

The school faced a number of challenges associated with the old single-glazed windows:

  • Energy Inefficiency: Single-glazed windows allow heat to escape, resulting in higher energy consumption and significantlyincreased heating costs.
  • Security Risks: Modern window systems with enhanced locking mechanisms offer far superior protection against unauthorised entry.
  • Safety Concerns: Single-glazed glass is prone to breaking in a way that increases the risk of injury, whereas modern glass is designed to break safely.

The Challenge

The challenge for our team was to upgrade the school’s windows and doors without disrupting the day-to-day running of the academy.

Our Solution

We supplied and installed the high performance double-glazed windows throughout the school, greatly improving the energy efficiency, security and occupant safety. Due to the scale of the project, it was not possible to complete all the works during the school holidays.

To address this, we worked closely with the trust’s project manager and the school’s leadership team to create a detailed works programme. This allowed for a phased approach, with designated areas being temporarily decanted each day to facilitate the removal and installation of the windows.

We scheduled key phases of the project during the Easter and half-term breaks, ensuring minimal disruption to teaching and learning.

Additional Works

Alongside the window replacements, the project included:

  • Installation of aluminium door sets, providing a durable and modern solution for high-traffic areas.
  • Louvred boiler room doors. improving the ventilation and compliance with safety standards.
  • Fly screens, enhancing comfort and hygiene.
  • Application of solar film to the south-facing elevation, significantly reducing heat build-up on sunny days and improving the learning for both staff and pupils.

Outcome

The completed works have transformed the building’s appearance, safety and energy performance. Royal Park Primary Academy now benefits from warmer, more secure and cost-efficient environment supporting its mission to provide an excellent learning experience.
