Lordswood Library Refurbishment

Waller Building and Glazing Services was awarded the Lordswood library refurbishment project by Medway Council. We were the successful contractor after entering their open tender process. The library required a makeover to update the facility which is an important community hub. In addition, to protect against rising utility costs, the building required an energy efficiency upgrade. Both divisions of Waller Associates worked on the project together with the specification including building and glazing works.

The Refurbishment

The library was looking dated and Medway Council wanted to upgrade the appearance of the building, both internally and externally. The main aim was to provide a building that all parts of the community could enjoy for years to come. This was achieved by refurbishing the library throughout. The back offices were fully upgraded with the addition of new DDA toilets and a baby changing area. In addition we supplied and installed all new furniture and shelving.

Entrance Reconfiguration

The entrance to the library was reconfigured to create extra space and incorporate new automated, aluminium double doors. In addition a new bespoke reception desk was installed in spacious area with the ability to welcome many people.

New Aluminium Window and Door Installation

To help improve the library’s carbon footprint, new aluminium double glazed windows and doors were installed. This will help insulate the building which means less heating is required and lowering the energy costs. To add character, we applied colour film to some of the windows. The new windows also add a stylish commercial look with added security benefits.

The project did encounter some initial design issues, however by working closely with Medway Council and their consultants, we were able to make some amendments which resulted in a great project being completed on time.

New Community Hub

Since the project was completed, the staff have noticed an upturn in people visiting the library which has become a central hub of the local community. New events include baby group mornings and other social group meetings and gatherings.

Opening Day

We were extremley proud to be invited to the opening day celebrations rubbing shoulders with business, sporting and television personalities. This was the perfect end to a great project.
