The following testimonial has been kindly provided by a private client following the successful completion of their new-build home by Waller Associates. Introduction/Background
Apart from the foundations, Waller Associates (‘Wallers’) took on responsibility for the construction of our new home. The foundations were dug earlier by another Building Firm which went into administration. The construction took place under a JCT Small Build Contract which meant, amongst other things, that Site meetings took place with our Architect on a weekly basis. Also, monthly Invoices for work done were first sent by Wallers to the Architect for approval, before they were sent to us for payment.At the end of the construction, we were issued with a 10-year Home Building Certificate.
The following paragraphs highlight some of the features of the build process.
The Quote
The Architect produced a detailed specification which was then used by Wallers to cost the project.
Progress Monitoring
Weekly meetings took place on-Site with the Architect and a Senior Wallers Manager. We found the meetings very useful because we were able to see and discuss progress and raise any questions. We were also made aware of when decisions would need to be made e.g. selecting worktops, basins and wall tiles for the en-suite bathrooms. Wallers often suggested the Suppliers where we could view such items prior to purchasing them.
Quality of Construction
Throughout the project, all the work were carried out to a high standard, not only on the exterior and interior of the property itself, but also in the landscaping of both the front and rear gardens.
Financial Matters
As mentioned above, progress payments were made on a monthly basis and the Invoice was inspected by the Architect before payment. Without exception, there were no occasions where the content of the accuracy of the Invoice was questioned by the Architect. In other words, all the Invoices were always accurately presented.
Post-Build Comments
We have been living at the property for twelve plus years. During this time we have kept a log of all the maintenance items needed. The log book is almost empty.
Summing Up
The construction of our home was carried out by a very knowledgeable group of skilled tradesmen using quality materials and managed by a small, but very knowledgeable, management team.
Thanks to Steve Waller and his team, we are now living in a quality home, built within budget and an agreed time frame.
