My Coronavirus Lockdown Experience

My Coronavirus Lockdown Experience

My Coronavirus Lockdown Experience

Once lockdown was announced by the prime minister, it felt slightly surreal that we had to stay at home and going to work was no longer available. There was a feeling of uncertainty, how long would this last? How would companies survive? This is my Coronavirus lockdown experience.

Furloughed

Luckily the government had put the furlough process into place. This meant that although we had to stay at home, the government would pay 80% of our wages. Managing director, Steve Waller, acted extremely quickly to the announcement and ensured that we were on the furlough scheme immediately which protected the company and employees jobs. This was important because we wouldn’t be able to source materials or work on sites meaning no work for the company.

What I did to Keep Myself Entertained During Lockdown

It took a while to get my head around the whole situation. It was very strange seeing little to no cars or people outside going about their normal day to day business. Seeing others wearing face masks and gloves whilst doing the food shop was also something I never thought I would see. It was like something out of a film. I haven’t missed the fast food places that I thought I would which is a surprise. During the lockdown I managed to catch up with all of the T.V. series’ that I was currently watching as well as the films I wanted to see. Gaming was also something I could do a lot of with so much more time available than before.

Even though I couldn’t do much during the full lockdown, staying home to keep the NHS and everyone else safe was the top priority. It felt like a small sacrifice compared to what nurses and doctors were doing.

Back to Work

Eight weeks later and we are back to work whilst implementing the government’s COVID-19 guidelines to help keep clients and staff safe. Hopefully life will get back to normal soon!
