School Building Cladding Project

Following a successful competitive tender submission, we were appointed to deliver a cladding refurbishment project at a live school site. Overall, the aim was to improve appearance, durability, and long-term performance. In addition, the project supported upgrades to early years facilities.

The Project

At the outset, the main entrance building appeared relatively new. However, the existing rendered cladding system had started to fail. As a result, the surface was visibly deteriorating. Because this area includes the school reception, it forms the first impression for visitors. Therefore, the appearance no longer reflected the standards the school wanted to present.

Consequently, we removed the defective rendered cladding system in full. We then installed high-performance composite cladding panels. These panels were selected for durability and low maintenance. They also provided a clean, contemporary finish. As a result, the new façade improved both longevity and visual impact.

Throughout the programme, works were carefully phased. This minimised disruption to daily school operations. Accordingly, the school remained fully operational at all times.

Additional Improvements

In addition to the cladding replacement, we completed several associated upgrades. These works improved both function and long-term building performance.

First, we removed an unused external door and replaced it with a new glazed screen. This increased natural light and improved the internal environment. Next, we relocated existing air conditioning condenser units which improved maintenance access and created a tidier external appearance. Furthermore, we installed additional ground drainage, providing a long-term protection to the building envelope.

Taken together, these measures ensured the project delivered both visual and practical benefits.

Nursery Building Upgrade

Beyond the entrance building, works also took place at the nursery. Here too, the existing cladding had deteriorated. Therefore, replacement was required.

We removed the failing system and installed new composite panel cladding. This created a consistent and modern appearance across the site. Meanwhile, we retained the original timber cladding at the rear. We carefully prepared and redecorated it to preserve its character.

In addition, we installed a new canopy at the front of the nursery building. This created a sheltered outdoor play area. As a result, nursery-aged children can now play and learn outside in most weather conditions. Consequently, the space can be used throughout the year.

Outcome

Overall, the project delivered a durable and modernised building envelope. It also improved the school’s external image. At the same time, it reduced future maintenance requirements.

Importantly, the nursery canopy created valuable new outdoor learning space. Therefore, the school now benefits from improved facilities for both staff and pupils. In summary, the result is a more resilient and welcoming learning environment that supports the school’s long-term educational goals.
