College Motor Mechanic Workshop Refurbishment

We carried out this Dover Technical College motor mechanic workshop refurbishment project during normal term time. The Energy Building, which was originally earmarked to be demolished, is a stand alone block which meant that we could work in an area sectioned off from the rest of the college. It was decided that demolishing the building and constructing a new workshop was not financially viable. Therefore the more affordable alternative of a complete refurbishment programme was approved.

The Project

The scope of works included the complete refurbishment of the main workshop, a toilet block and the conversion of a storeroom into a classroom. Each area was decorated throughout. To bring the building up to date and improve the energy efficiency we overhauled the existing hot water and heating systems. In addition a full electrical refit was carried out including fire and intruder alarms. Upon the request from the college, we also created more storage areas. A new staircase was also installed to create easier access to the first floor and viewing area. To improve security new electronically operated shutters were installed as well as aluminium doors.

Classroom

The college requested that we create a new learning space where students studying mechanics could carry out theory lessons as well as practical lessons. The classroom was transformed from an old boiler room/storeroom. The walls were plastered and decorated, a carpet fitted and, in addition, a suspended ceiling was installed.

New Roof

To ensure that the workshop and office was at is most energy efficient, we installed a new insulated roof which will mean lower heating costs and an improved carbon footprint for the building.

The college now has a great facility for budding motor machanics to carry out there studies.
