Canterbury School’s Toilet Refurbishment

Waller Building Services carried out this Canterbury School’s toilet refurbishment project during the school summer holidays. We refurbished a total of six toilet blocks in various colours chosen by the school. As can be seen in the original photographs, the toilets were quite dated and needed refurbishing. The school picked bright colour schemes for all of the toilet blocks to revitalise them. Each area received a full refurbishment which began with a complete strip out of the existing sanitary ware, flooring, tiling, fixtures and fittings.

Layout Reconfiguration

To make the most of the areas, we reconfigured the layouts of the toilets which meant that the drainage system needed to be adapted. Additionally, in the boy’s toilets, the school requested that the urinals be replaced with cubicles which is a more hygienic option.

Refurbishment

New sanitary ware, cubicles and vanity units were installed into each of the toilet blocks which were decorated throughout. Additionally, new flooring and LED lighting was installed. The finishing touch to the toilets was the installation of new hand dryers.

Material Supply Problems

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the cubicle manufacturer we use had some stock issues. This had a knock on effect with our installation and the project schedule. With the school holidays coming to an end and the new strict coronavirus guidelines being introduced to schools, the school was concerned that we would be able to finish in time for the school reopening for the new school year. To ensure that the school was ready to re-open we deployed additional labour worked longer hours, into the evening. This meant that the project was 95% complete and that the toilets were ready and safe for the pupils to use. We completed the cosmetic works after school hours which meant that the school was very happy with the results.
