The Brief

Newington Community Primary School in Ramsgate approached us to provide a quotation for refurbishing a number of its student toilet facilities. With a limited budget available, the school initially had sufficient funds to refurbish just two toilet blocks. Working within these financial constraints, we helped deliver a practical, high-quality solution, with the intention of allowing the remaining facilities to be upgraded in future phases as funding becomes available.

The Works

The selected toilet blocks were completely stripped out and refurbished, creating cleaner, more durable and functional facilities better suited to the needs of a busy primary school.

The refurbishment included:

  • New toilet cubicles and sanitaryware, including replacement toilets and modern wash troughs.
  • New anti-slip flooring, providing a durable, practical surface suitable for a school environment.
  • Concealed pipework, with boxing installed to create a neat, tidy finish and minimise exposed services.
  • New ceilings, helping to prevent items from being hidden above the ceiling and improving the overall finish.
  • A redesigned boys’ toilet area, replacing the existing urinal to address previous issues with mess and improve cleanliness.
  • Additional secure storage, by dividing the oversized washroom areas to create a dedicated, lockable storeroom within each block.

The new storerooms provide valuable space for the secure storage of cleaning materials, helping the school make better use of its available floor area.

The Result

The completed refurbishment has provided Newington Community Primary School with improved toilet facilities that are easier to maintain, more practical for everyday use and better suited to the needs of pupils.

By making considered design choices and maximising the use of the existing space, we delivered meaningful improvements within the school’s available budget. The phased approach also provides a practical way forward for refurbishing the remaining toilet facilities as future funding allows.

This project demonstrates our commitment to working collaboratively with education providers to deliver value for money, durable and fit-for-purpose building solutions, while understanding the financial and operational challenges faced by schools.
