Hadlow College Window Installation

We were successful in tendering for the replacement window project at Hadlow College’s Animal Management Unit, providing a modern, practical window solution tailored to the building’s specialist environment.

Window Replacement at Hadlow College’s Animal Management Unit

The unit houses a diverse range of animal and reptile species and supports courses designed to develop students’ knowledge of animal care, welfare, health and behaviour through a combination of hands-on practical experience and classroom-based learning.

The existing timber windows had deteriorated over time and required replacement. Our brief was to install modern uPVC windows that would improve the building’s appearance and functionality while maintaining consistency with the wider college estate.

The Solution

A total of 60 windows were replaced during the summer holidays, helping to minimise disruption to college activities. The new uPVC windows featured a wood-effect external finish to complement the existing windows across the college, with a clean white finish internally.

Given the specialist nature of the facility, careful planning and close collaboration with the college were essential throughout the project. We worked closely with the team to minimise disturbance and ensure the safety and welfare of the animals and reptiles during installation.

Where conditions allowed, windows were replaced while animals remained in their enclosures, with appropriate precautions taken to maintain a safe environment and minimise stress. This required a considerate, flexible approach, with the needs of the animals remaining a key priority throughout the works.

Specialist Glazing for Animal Welfare

In addition to the window replacements, we incorporated specialist glazing to meet the needs of the different environments within the unit.

  • Solar-reflective glass: Installed on the south-facing elevation to help reduce solar heat gain and minimise the risk of rooms overheating during warmer summer weather.
  • Blackout glass: Installed in designated areas to accommodate nocturnal species and support the specific environmental requirements of the animals housed within the facility.

The Result

The project delivered 60 modern uPVC windows, combining an appearance that complements the wider college estate with glazing solutions tailored to the needs of a specialist animal management facility.

Through careful planning, close collaboration with the college and a strong focus on animal welfare, we successfully completed the works during the summer holidays while accommodating the unique challenges of working in an environment housing a diverse range of animal and reptile species.
