What is FENSA and Why Does it Matter?
Glazing forms a significant part of our business. While we regularly repair damaged windows and doors, most of our work involves supplying and installing new window and door systems. We install both uPVC and aluminium windows and doors.
What is FENSA?
FENSA (the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme) is a UK Government-authorised competent person scheme that monitors compliance with Building Regulations for replacement windows and doors in domestic properties across England and Wales.
Registered installers can self-certify that their installations meet the required building and energy efficiency standards, removing the need for homeowners to arrange separate inspections through their local authority.
FENSA aims to raise standards across the glazing industry by promoting professionalism, ensuring regulatory compliance, and protecting homeowners. Every FENSA Approved Installer must also provide an insurance-backed guarantee, giving customers additional peace of mind.
Do You Need to Be FENSA Approved to Install Windows and Doors in Commercial Buildings?
Most of the windows and doors we install are for commercial clients, including schools, healthcare facilities, and other public buildings. It is important to note that FENSA certification only applies to replacement windows and doors in domestic properties.
Commercial installations must still comply with all relevant Building Regulations, including those covering thermal performance, safety glazing, means of escape, and, where applicable, fire safety.
Unlike domestic installations covered by FENSA, commercial projects generally require approval from the local authority’s Building Control department. The client or installer must arrange an inspection, after which a Building Control Officer can issue the appropriate completion certificate.
Why is Waller Building and Glazing Services FENSA Registered?
Although domestic projects make up a relatively small proportion of our work, Waller Building and Glazing Services maintains FENSA Approved Installer status. This allows us to complete domestic replacement installations in full compliance with current regulations while demonstrating our commitment to quality, professionalism, and industry best practice.
Our commercial clients can have confidence that they are working with a contractor that understands the latest regulatory requirements and delivers installations to the highest standards.
Our team includes FENSA-registered surveyors and installers who have met the scheme’s rigorous competency requirements. Their expertise ensures that every project benefits from the knowledge, workmanship, and attention to detail expected from an accredited glazing specialist.
