First Aid Training
Well, those three years flew by! Our emergency first aid training came around very quickly again. All staff at Waller’s have a full day of first aid training every three years.
On our latest session, eight members of staff, including myself, were gathered in our meeting room with Richard Cooper, the lead first aid trainer from Oast First Aid.
Richard immediately made us feel comfortable and explained how the day would look, which included some rolling around on the floor, putting each other into the recovery position and attempting CPR on Annie… No, Annie is not a real person!
The Training
The training covered;
- First Aid Box contents
- What to consider before treating anyone (survey the scene)
- Prioritising treatment (DRABC)
- Resuscitation (CPR),
- Using a defib (AED)
- Choking
- Seizures
- Blood loss,
- Heart attacks
- Minor injuries and much more
One thing I learnt was that you shouldn’t remove a splinter if it’s under the nail!! Who would’ve known that? I probably would’ve just pulled it out!
Richard took time throughout the day, to listen to our own experiences, especially Paul who seemed to deal with accidents by using dirty washing up water Lol. Richard recommended we didn’t use this technique!
At the end of the training, we all had the dreaded assessment to complete, to see who really had been listening.
Good news…we all passed with flying colours!
