School Tilt and Turn Window Install

This school tilt and turn window installation was an interesting project. The original classroom windows opened out onto a school walk way.

The Requirements

The school requested that we provide solutions to ensure that the new windows didn’t open out onto the walkway where the students could potentially walk into them causing themselves harm. Additionally, during the warmer months, the school required maximum airflow into the classrooms which can become very warm. The task was to design a window that could create a large opening but didn’t open out over the path. The school was also concerned that pupils could open the windows themselves.

The Solution

The solution was to install tilt and turn windows with opening restrictors. We designed each window to have four openers, two top fan light openers and two large opening casements. Two top openers can be opened easily by school staff when ventilation is required but are too high for students to open. The two larger openers are designed to either tilt inwards or open inwards fully when maximum ventilation is required.

The larger opening casements are restricted and can only be opened fully when engaging the restrictor mechanism positioned at a high level. This ensures that the windows can only be opened fully by members of staff.

Trickle Vents

Each new window comes with trickle vents. The vents provide constant background ventilation without the windows needing to be open.

Fifteen classroom windows were replaced in two days.
