Waller Associates

In 1993 Steve Waller started Waller Building Services after training as a quantity surveyor. Over the next few years the company grew and it was in July, 2000, when the decision was made for Waller Building Services to become a Limited company.  Therefore Waller Associates Limited was set up and Waller Building Services became a trading division within that company. In 2010, an opportunity arose that dove tailed well with the existing company structure.  A long established local Glazing company went into administration which produced the need for a commercial and domestic glazing supplier in the area.  Their commercial glazing manger, Paul Hayward, liked the way we operated as a company and therefore a new division was formed.

In August 2011 we installed fifteen uPVC double glazed windows at Canterbury Road Primary School, Sittingbourne.

Part of our service includes a free 10 year warranty services plan. Each year we return to service all moving parts of the windows we have fitted including hinges and handles.

This gives the school peace of mind that after installation all windows fitted will be problem free.

We have installed double glazed windows in many Kent schools and offer the free 10 year warranty in every quotation we provide.

Preparations are now well under way for the EduKent Expo & Conference being held at the Kent County Showground on 27th September 2012.

We have designed our stand incorporating our company colours, values and beliefs and will be promoting Building and Glazing Services within the education sector. We are currently working with a number of schools in Kent including Meopham School, Wayfield Children’s Centre, Chatham, Thomas Aveling School, Rochester, Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, St Michael’s Junior School, Maidstone & Stone Bay School, Broadstairs.

Images of the above schools, as well as other schools & academies we have worked with will be on display at the exhibition. Works include replacement windows & doors, classroom refurbishment, toilet block refurbishments, structural works incorporating new entrance door installation & external works to playgrounds.

We are also currently in the process of carrying out our Waller Glazing Services annual service agreement for several schools who had windows installed last year. This involves our operatives checking all windows and doors that have been fitted. All working parts will be lubricated as necessary and any minor adjustments required will be carried out. This service is free and will be carried out annually for ten years.

Our Emergency Glazing Repair Kits which have been distributed over the past 8 months are also producing great results with emergency repairs being carried out at South Avenue Infant School, Sittingbourne, Grove Park Community Primary School, Sittingbourne, St Mary of Charity Primary School, Faversham & St Mary’s Island Primary School, Chatham.  If you have not yet received one of our Emergency Glazing Repair Kits please see our Customer Relations Manager on our stand.

Hello,

I honestly can’t believe its April already! Yet again my aim isn’t to bore anyone but today’s blog is about a little adventure Mark (customer relations manager) and I had when we visited one of our supplier’s factories.

Early one morning we set off on our adventure, traveling 35 minutes to one of our large suppliers, the reason, I was going to learn more about glass. Occasionally companies demand the glass shortly after making an order, not realising the complex processes going on behind the scenes and how time consuming it can be.

toughened-glass

For example, above is a graphic outlining each stage of the toughening process that Float Glass goes through before it becomes toughened glass.

Firstly, Float Glass is placed onto a roller table which leads to a furnace; temperatures inside the furnace can reach over 650 degrees Celsius. The heated glass then goes through a quenching cycle, cooling the glass rapidly by blasting cold air through ducts onto its surface while the glass is moved at speed on a roller table.(If the glass breaks at this stage you have to start the process all over again).

Like many others before me on seeing such a complex process of toughening glass I realised just how long it could potentially take to do a bulk order of glass. The glass looks all but the same when it comes through the toughening process so why do we toughen glass?

The main reasons to use toughened glass are:

  1. Toughened glass, when broken, shatters into cube-shaped particles. It therefore qualifies as a safety glazing material.
  2. Toughened glass offers greater strength against impact compared to annealed glass, and thus, better resistance to the force of wind. It is more effective if placed within a well-designed, overall glazing system.
  3. When tempered glass does break, it shatters into small cubes, reducing the likelihood of serious deep cut injury. Toughening increases panes edge strength. Thus toughened glass is sometime specified when designers anticipate high thermal stresses.

So by toughening glass we make it stronger and safer!

I enjoyed my day at the factory and it did teach me a lot about the manufacturing process in a short space of time. Some of the machinery they had was amazing, who would have thought you cut glass in water?

I fully understand now why when people come to buy windows from Waller Glazing Services; they want to buy quality glass from a company they trust, your safety is paramount to us and the quality of our glazing products and glazing services reflects our ethics. If you ever need any advice on glazing or would like a quote, supply or repair of new or existing windows please do not hesitate to contact us!

The Kent 2020 Vision B2B event is now over and I can honestly say that all the preparation was worth it and has hopefully paid off. For our first show, I would say it was a great success! We set ourselves targets for the day and although we did not get as many leads as we were hoping for, some of the leads we did get were a lot better than we were expecting. A big thank you to Andy, Mark & Paul who attended the day; it was a learning curve for us all but everyone played their part extremely well and as the day progressed we all felt more comfortable on the stand.

After completing our post trade show debriefing, we concluded that the direction the stand took with regards to ‘Free Glass Surveys’ was probably the wrong one as the majority of the people attending did not have commercial premises. Maybe we should have taken the domestic route? However, the integrated blind that we were showcasing on our stand generated a lot of interest and this lead to several great contacts. Another great PR piece for us was the Imperial Stormtrooper we had wandering about on the day with corporate logos emblazoned over it! This produced a huge amount of interest and he must have been photographed hundreds of times!!

Waller_Glazing_Kent2020

The proof, they say, is in the pudding and we will not really know how successful the day was until an analysis is done once all follow up calls are made. But it’s looking very promising at the moment and hopefully we will be back again next year! Does anyone know where Darth Vader lives?
