Steve attended Riverside Primary School in Rainham on Friday 23rd January for its first ever jobs fair. Professionals from all walks of life visited to inspire the children and hopefully encourage them to think about what they may want to do in the future and to dream big. The fair was open to pupils in Year 5 and 6 who are aged 9 to 11 and to prove to them if you work hard at school they can be whatever they want to be.

‘I recently attended a job fair at Riverside Primary School for year’s 5 & 6. It was refreshing to see so many enthusiastic children and it was a real pleasure to talk to them about their thoughts on their future careers. Before attending I did think that talking to kids at this young age was a bit premature but I was pleasantly surprised. Some of the children seemed to know exactly what they wanted to do from the classic racing car driver or pop star through to game designer, doctor or architect!
Everyone was extremely enthusiastic and they all enjoyed trying out the different types of surveying equipment I took along, especially the laser measurer! Not sure if I managed to convince anyone to become a building surveyor (especially seeing I was next to a policeman with his utility belt on display) but I think I might have persuaded one or two!
Overall, an excellent event organised by the school and I am looking forward to attending again next year’
